Biodiverse Lightweight Green Roof System
The Biodiverse Lightweight Green Roof System brings the biodiversity benefits of a wildflower roof to structures that can't carry a traditional deep-build system. It uses 60–80 mm of lightweight substrate, a UK-native wildflower seed mix selected for shallow-substrate tolerance, and small-scale habitat features - all at roughly 90 kg/m² saturated.

Frequently asked questions
Will a Biodiverse Lightweight roof score BNG credits?
Yes - typically scoring Medium distinctiveness in the DEFRA BNG metric. The uplift is lower than a full-depth biodiverse roof but still contributes meaningful biodiversity units, especially over larger commercial areas.
Can I mix sedum and wildflower in this system?
Yes. A combined sedum-wildflower mix gives instant green coverage (from sedum) plus seasonal flowering (from wildflower) - a popular spec for commercial and residential projects.
How heavy is the Biodiverse Lightweight system?
Around 90 kg/m² saturated - roughly the same as our Lightweight Sedum system, but with wildflower planting instead of pure sedum.
