Green Roof Protection Fleece
Protection fleece is a heavy non-woven polypropylene geotextile laid directly over the waterproof membrane on a green or blue roof. It absorbs point loads from cobbles, attenuation crates, paving pads, substrate weight and maintenance foot traffic, and stops sharp edges puncturing the membrane below. We supply 300 g/m² and 500 g/m² protection fleece in standard 2 m wide rolls for nationwide pallet delivery.

What is protection fleece on a green roof?
Protection fleece is a heavy non-woven geotextile laid directly over the waterproof membrane to shield it from point loads and punctures. It sits beneath cobbles, attenuation crates, substrate and any maintenance walkway zones.
What weight of protection fleece do I need?
300 g/m² is standard under a sedum or wildflower build-up and below cobbled margins. 500 g/m² is preferred under blue roof crates, paving pads and ballasted inverted roofs where point loads are higher.
Is protection fleece the same as filter fleece?
No. Protection fleece is heavy and goes beneath the system to shield the membrane. Filter fleece is much lighter, sits between drainage and substrate, and stops fine particles washing into the drainage layer.
