What is a sedum tray system?
A sedum tray system is a modular green roof made up of pre-grown sedum trays - interlocking HDPE units that already contain drainage, filter, substrate and mature sedum vegetation. You drop them onto a sound waterproof deck and click them together. No loose substrate, no roll-out blanket, no membrane work.
How many Click 'n' Go Light sedum trays do I need per m²?
Each Light tray measures 373 × 573 mm and covers ~0.21 m², so you need approximately 4.7 sedum trays per square metre of roof area. For a 10 m² shed you'd order around 47 trays.
Can sedum trays be installed on a shed roof?
Yes - sedum trays for sheds are the most popular use case for the Click 'n' Go Light system. Most shed roofs built with 18 mm OSB on 47 × 75 mm rafters at 400 mm centres comfortably carry the ~45 kg/m² saturated load. Send us a photo of the rafter layout and we'll confirm before you order.
Are sedum trays removable?
Yes. Sedum trays simply lift out - useful for membrane inspection, gutter clearing, roof works or relocation. The sedum continues to thrive in the tray once moved. This makes them ideal for tenants, leaseholders and temporary installs.
Do sedum trays need a separate drainage layer or root barrier?
No. Each Click 'n' Go tray contains its own drainage reservoir, filter fleece and engineered substrate. You only need a sound waterproof deck underneath - existing felt, EPDM, GRP or single-ply membrane is usually fine.
